I am so excited I started this blog.
I love the idea of chronicling my adventures, to me this is like an open diary. But it’s not just a one way street. Please share with me your journey as well. Honestly, I would love to hear it.
I made a Facebook group called “for women over 50”. Please join and let us all know about you and what you would like to get out of the group.
But this post was supposed to be about goals.
Every year I make goals.
Often I don’t reach them by the end of the year, and I feel frustrated. But this year I decided 2020 would be different.
We don’t always have power over our goal’s outcome. But, we do have power over what actions we take to reach them. So this year I made goals that were action driven.
One of my key goals this year is to get into robust physical and mental condition. So rather then saying I want to weigh 125 lbs. by September I am setting goals like walking 5,000 steps a day and eliminating starches from my diet. That I can control. Weight loss, if it happens, will be a by-product of these activities.
Through my reading I have learned that getting up early and having a solid morning routine is important to achieving the results I want in life. The magic time to get up seems to be 5am. Getting up before dawn sets you up for success in your day. Of course, there are things you should do after you get up that prime you for major productivity.
I have been starting small and am adding as time progresses. I know myself and going from waking up at 9 to waking up at 5 is not going to happen in a day. So since January I have been improving. I add something each month to my morning routine. This month I added 15 minutes of yoga.
This is what my morning routine looks like now:
- 7:30 wakeup
- Shower and dress for the day (since I work from home I was wearing pajamas most of the time)
- Make my bed
- Drink 16 ounces of cold water
- Do 15 minutes of gentle yoga
- Read or watch a podcast that teaches me something (right now I have been watching Tony Robbins’ podcasts)
- Make coffee and have yogurt and fruit for breakfast
After this I sit down to work. I don’t look at my emails until I begin my workday.
I have been super disciplined about my morning routine. Even on weekends.
While I have lost weight and have been more disciplined, I have also discovered unexpected bonuses. For example: I have reduced my need for sleeping pills down from 4 to 2 a night. My posture has improved and my back hurts much less. They say 66 days of doing something everyday forms a habit. Some things I have been doing at least that long so they are ingrained. Other things need more time till they become a must do.
There is a book that I have been reading about goals that I really like. It’s called: “The Most Powerful Goal Achievement System in the World”, by Mike Pettigrew. I think you will get a lot out of it. You’re never too old to have goals.
In fact, without the right kind of goals life is not as sweet.
Hopefully though, you’ll realize that setting the right kind of goals is super important. Instead of setting yourself up for failure, set goals that lead to transformation. Don’t demand from yourself results that are beyond your control. Instead, focus on action goals that only depend on you.
Then, just relish the moment every time you scratch one off your list!
What goals are you working on right now?
Why not share them in the facebook group? I promise to read each and every one of them.
